چکیده

Artificial basins are used to recharge groundwater by many municipalities improve the sustainability of storm water management. Despite its increasing operational implementation, artificial still raises numerous questions related impact on quality. In this paper, a 3D numerical model MAR basin/aquifer system was implemented in order simulate fate and pollutants. It illustrate complex distribution time space tracer contaminant injected basin. The based well instrumented infiltration basin located Chassieu (Lyon area, France). well-known Richards flow saturated unsaturated zone study site. transfer solutes modelled advection-dispersion-equation (ADE). calibrated during rain event using hydraulic head electric conductivity data from set piezometers around validated one month period operation presenting several events. then solute pollutant considered as high intensity event. This simplified test case illustrated mechanism capillary trapping vadose effect sampling point location concentration measurements. Three main results were obtained: (1) promoted retention up 20% zone, (2) 0 24% could be recovered depending piezometer location, (3) averaged decreased 50% if measuring device is lowered 5 m under table. These strongly site dependant but observed trends should while discussing punctual quality measurements monitor systems. also allowed suggest some guidelines for positioning.

Spatial and temporal infiltration dynamics during managed aquifer recharge.

Natural groundwater recharge is inherently difficult to quantify and predict, largely because it comprises a series of processes that are spatially distributed and temporally variable. Infiltration ponds used for managed aquifer recharge (MAR) provide an opportunity to quantify recharge processes across multiple scales under semi-controlled conditions. We instrumented a 3-ha MAR infiltration po...

Economics of Managed Aquifer Recharge

Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) technologies can provide a variety of water resources management benefits by increasing the volume of stored water and improving water quality through natural aquifer treatment processes. Implementation of MAR is often hampered by the absence of a clear economic case for the investment to construct and operate the systems. Economic feasibility can be evaluated usi...

Geochemical Triggers of Arsenic Mobilization during Managed Aquifer Recharge.

Mobilization of arsenic and other trace metal contaminants during managed aquifer recharge (MAR) poses a challenge to maintaining local groundwater quality and to ensuring the viability of aquifer storage and recovery techniques. Arsenic release from sediments into solution has occurred during purified recycled water recharge of shallow aquifers within Orange County, CA. Accordingly, we examine...

Linking denitrification and infiltration rates during managed groundwater recharge.

We quantify relations between rates of in situ denitrification and saturated infiltration through shallow, sandy soils during managed groundwater recharge. We used thermal methods to determine time series of point-specific flow rates, and chemical and isotopic methods to assess denitrification progress. Zero order denitrification rates between 3 and 300 μmol L(-1) d(-1) were measured during inf...
